Job Purpose 

As a Machine Learning Engineer (NLP), you will work with our small but growing team and play an active role in building our Machine Learning/NLP capability. You will be responsible for developing and refining the NLP algorithms and infrastructure of our AI-powered design platform. You will apply SOTA NLP techniques to solve complex problems while collaborating with cross-functional teams. 

As Machine Learning Engineer (NLP), you will be responsible for: 

  1. Building and deploying NLP models using the latest techniques to solve real business problems at scale, and exposing them through APIs 
  1. Working with unstructured data to extract insights and build robust data pipelines 
  1. Evaluating, tracking, and improving the performance of NLP models through MLOps 
  1. Driving innovation through research, experimentation, and rapid prototyping of MVPs and POCs, collaborating with engineers and product teams to validate findings and plan execution 
  1. Communicating technical concepts and results to non-technical stakeholders 
  1. Playing an active role in the wider team and growth of the business 

To be successful in this role you will have:

  1. valuating, tracking, and improving the performance of NLP models through MLOps 
  1. Driving innovation through research, experimentation, and rapid prototyping of MVPs and POCs, collaborating with engineers and product teams to validate findings and plan execution 
  1. Communicating technical concepts and results to non-technical stakeholders 
  1. Playing an active role in the wider team and growth of the business, and building scalable systems 
  1. Have experience working with Azure, AWS or GCP 

You will also have: 

  1. Be a relentless problem solver, understanding requirements and designing solutions 
  1. An entrepreneurial spirit and an interest in building world-changing ethical AI solutions 
  1. Excellent communication skills and be able to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders 
  1. Be detail-oriented and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously

Salary & Benefits  

Salary range: Upto £100k dependant on experience. 

In addition to 25 days of annual leave, we offer a paid shutdown between Christmas and New Year, which usually equates to an additional 3 to 5 days depending on how the dates fall. Everyone also gets their birthday off each year to celebrate properly. 

Our working week also has a little perk built in, as we finish at 3pm every Friday.

Location      

While our ‘official’ registered office is in Exeter, we all work remotely across different locations. We have regular team working-together days in both Exeter, Wokingham and London, so you would need to live/work somewhere reasonably accessible to one or more of these locations. If you prefer working in an office, we offer flexible memberships to regional workspaces. 

Recruitment process 

As part of our recruitment process, we feel that it’s important for you to get to know us, understand the reality of what it’s like here at RoleMapper and get a true flavour of the role you are applying for. With this in mind, our recruitment process contains the following steps: 

  • Initial Recruiter Conversation to provide an overview of the company, our strategy, and the role. This is also an opportunity for us to learn more about your background, experience, and potential fit. 
  • Technical Discussion with our Senior Machine Learning team to explore your technical expertise, experience, and alignment with the key requirements of the role. 
  • Work-Based Assessment & Psychometric Assessment - you will complete a Wave psychometric assessment ahead of the work-based session.  During the work-based session, you’ll be asked to present and discuss your approach to several relevant tasks, allowing us to understand how you think, solve problems, and apply your expertise in practice. 
  • Final Conversation – CEO & Founder to discuss any remaining questions and explore your motivations and fit with our vision and culture. a final conversation to cover any remaining questions 

While there are quite a few steps, we try to do these as quickly as we can. We ideally aim for all of this to happen across a 2‑3 week period.
