Job Purpose 

RoleMapper is building the DNA for Work: the data infrastructure powering fair, transparent, and AI-driven workforce decisions. You'll shape and scale the platform that makes this possible. 

You'll lead our AI roadmap, from model design to data architecture, ensuring RoleMapper's technology remains differentiated, defensible, and enterprise ready. You will play a pivotal role in defining how our proprietary AI and platform evolves, turning complex, messy organisational data into intelligence that powers fair compensation, pay transparency, and workforce agility. 

Combining strategy with hands-on leadership, you'll build the team, systems, and innovation engine that drive our next phase of growth and position RoleMapper at the forefront of AI in work design. . 

Responsibilities 

As a AI & Machine Learning Lead, you will be responsible for: 

  • Translating product vision into a feasible, scalable AI and ML roadmap that deliver measurable business value and align with commercial goals  
  • Designing and scaling of RoleMapper’s AI and Machine Learning Models, combining leadership with hands-on execution 
  • Ensuring reliable and responsible ML systems through strong operations and governance 
  • Owning cross-functional alignment to ensure ML solutions are developed collaboratively and translated seamlessly into the core product experience t
  • Leading and scaling high performing ML Team 
  • Representing our technology to customers, partners & investors and across the company  

To be successful in this role, you will have: 

  • In depth AI/ML & NLP architectural background 
  • Experience in leading and growing ML/Data teams 
  • A “product focused” approach with a background in data-heavy SaaS and/or B2B Enterprise platforms 
  • A collaborative, skilled communicator with ability to influence non-technical audiences. 
  • A commercially savvy with a startup mindset: hands-on, innovative, pragmatic, delivery-oriented 

You will also have:  

  • A proactive, hands-on mindset — comfortable working at pace and in a fast-changing environment. 
  • Clear and confident communication skills, able to explain technical ideas to non-technical audiences. 
  • Strong collaboration and stakeholder skills — you listen well and work closely with others to solve problems. 
  • A focus on delivery and outcomes, with a practical and flexible approach. 
  • Motivation to be part of a scaling start-up where things evolve quickly and you can have a real impact.

Salary & Benefits  

Salary range: up to £120k plus share options.  

In addition to 25 days of holiday we have a paid shutdown period between Christmas and New Year which equates to an additional 3 to 5 days, depending on where the holidays land.

Location 

While our ‘official’ registered office is in Exeter, we all work remotely across different locations. We have regular team working-together days in Exeter & London, so you would need to live/work somewhere reasonably accessible to one or more of these locations.  If you prefer working in an office, we offer flexible memberships to regional workspaces.  

Recruitment process  

As part of our recruitment process, we feel that it’s important for you to get to know us, understand the reality of what it’s like here at RoleMapper and get a true flavour of the role you are applying for. With this in mind, our recruitment process contains the following steps: 

  1. Initial recruiter call to provide an overview of the company, the role and get an understanding of your background and fit for the role   
  1. VP Customer Success & CPO Interview - providing more details on the company, our strategy, the role and a deep dive into you and your alignment to the specific requirements for the role   
  1. Meet the CEO & Founder 
  1. Psychometric assessment (Wave) ahead of the work-based session  
  1. Meet the team – a chance to meet the people you will be working with and get to know us better  
  1. Work-based assessment - during the session, you’ll be asked to present your work on several specific tasks.   

While there are quite a few steps, we try to do these as quickly as we can. We ideally aim for all of this to happen across a 2-3 week period.
